Micro-Advertisers
Process
The steps in micro-advertising are very similar to those in affiliate marketing.
Decide which products/companies/groups of products you want to advertise.
Set up affiliate relationships with the selected companies and ensure the payment process works. The same concerns about the affiliate program paying out exist here.
Use Google’s AdWords tool to go through the mechanics of placing an advertisement.
Measure performance in all aspects of the process and undertake tweaking of all advertisements.
Critical Success Factors
The mechanics of micro-advertising are mostly straightforward. Affiliate programs exist and mostly work smoothly and honestly. Google’s systems are excellent. In practice there are really only two CSFs:
Understanding how to optimize the advertisements to attract clicks. This means understanding the concepts of keywords and how to select them, how to survive the auctioning process and how to avoid having the advertisement disabled. This includes understanding how to use the features of AdWords to maximize your chances of exposure.
Very close monitoring of results. This includes knowing how to do test campaigns and how to collect and interpret data.
Concluding Remarks
Micro-advertising is a genuine way of doing business that can yield real income. The income is ‘passive’ in the sense that once you have set up the campaign it runs automatically. But nothing stands still and most campaigns have to be continually tweaked and measured. The underlying infrastructure for micro-marketing is already in place you are just plugging into a system. This means the primary resources are those that can help you set up and refine your advertisements. There are a few recognized (and heavily self-promoted) gurus on the market; you’ll probably find yourself working with several of them as you seek to refine your techniques. No one has an arm lock on the ‘perfect’ campaign.

Affiliate Networks aggregate lots of people who want to sell and link them with affiliates. The network typically ensures that everyone gets paid - in particular the affiliate - eliminating one of their biggest worries.
The list below represents the biggest and best Affiliate Networks - more than enough to make an excellent business.
Clickbank: exclusively electronic delivery. 11,000 plus products - top of any affiliate's list.
Commission Junction: is the premier site for those wishing to advertise hard goods and services.
BeFree is similar to Commission Junction and is owned by them
LinkShare is another large network linking traditional businesses with Web micro-advertisers
Dark Blue worth considering, mid-sized and no fees (currently) again linking traditional with web businesses
Others to consider later are: Performics, Share a Sale, Affiliate Fuel, Clix Galore, Affiliate Window, DGM
Affiliate Income Systems
These are largely pre-set systems that get you into web marketing without the bother of having to set up your site etc. They all claim substantial passive income - set it up and leave it. Clearly there is a "nothing for nothing" issue here and if you truly want to make money you are going to have to promote them. The vendor typically sets the product up so that various streams of income accrue to them - commissions on mandatory affiliations, residual income from embedded programs with MLM components etc. This is fair, after all they set it all up! But remember - they are doing this for their reasons not yours. That all said it is a legitimate way of getting your feet wet in the web marketing world and seeing everything complete. This is a valuable learning experience.
The following are the ones we would recommend you look into:
Affiliate Cash Vault: a strong seller through Clickbank this is a classic of the 'do-it-all-for-you' genre. Recommended if you want to simply plug in and go.
1st Promotion: Run by the authors of the Idiot's Guide to Web Marketing, 1st Promotion has considerable flexibility, is supported by a wide array of materials and is well supported. Well worth a look.
CBMAll by Jeff Mulligan
Plug In Profit Site ™: In Stone Evans' program a website is created for you to promote containing a core of strong programs (SFI, Empowerism, Traffic Swarm, Internet Marketing Center, and Internet Marketing Warriors) at least three with residual income opportunities. The aim is to create sales and residual income through MLM style structures. All you have to do is promote your site.
Building your own Site
We have looked at all kinds of ways of getting easily into business if you want to put together your own site and promote it, whether to sell your own products or to market affiliations. The only two that we recommend are XSitePro and Site Build It. They are simply streets ahead of the competition in ease of use and simplicity.
Brief Comparison. Site Build It and XSitePro are at the same level of ease of use - built for the non-technical person - but with slightly different marketing logics. The XSitePro positioning is tilted toward the creation and managing of MULTIPLE web sites on the logic that no one site can produce more than a certain income so increasing income means increasing the number of sites out there. Site Build It allows only a single site to be built each time, but it has a much stronger COMMERCIAL slant with access to a richer set of tools than XSitePro. The two programs are both excellent and you should really examine both before making a decision.
