Special Report

Summary: Web business opportunities come in many forms, but one of the core internet marketing approaches is the mixing of content with advertising and affiliate links. Virtual Real Estate is a profitable variant on this theme.

Building Virtual Real Estate

This article assumes you have read the Insights Letter titled Making Your Fortune with Virtual Real Estate.

VRE is a core concept of web business and internet marketing. That it was snappily named and promoted by John Reese doesn't make it any less basic.

To summarize: A VRE site is a multi-page site, where every page is optimized to high potential keywords. The site typically has a theme (e.g. golf, vacations in the Andes, health, etc) with each page covering a niche concept within the theme (e.g. golf swing, golf holidays in Florida, etc) and is monetized using Google AdSense or YPN from Yahoo, plus affilate links.

Thus far, thus straightforward.

The issues for the beginner are whether to start a VRE site and if so how to do it.

Is VRE for me?

There are two ways of seeing VRE, as a passive digital asset or as an active one.

  • VRE as a passive digital asset would mean creating a site that once created manages itself. By, for example, obtaining its content from subscription feeds so that it is dynamcally updated. In theory such a site would attract traffic and generate clicks automatically. Reese does admit that it might take 6 months or a year for the site to be fully indexed and accepted by the engines. Creating such a site took John Reese about 120 hours of work. The implication being that it would take a beginner a lot longer. However, once the work is done, it hums along.
  • VRE as an active asset would mean creating a site using a mixture of largely original content and some subscription sources. The creation of the content is the big issue. To be able to fill out say 500 pages with your own content is a major undertaking. But, the search engines definitely prefer this route and you are largely insulated from whatever they may do to sift out the 'duplicate content' VRE sites that they feel, clog up their search results.  Such an active site with a body of original content can also be exploited in many other ways - through repurposing the content, selling links to it and so on.

Which one you chose will depend on your level of comitment and what you want out of your web experience. If you can pick away and build an "Authority" site with really deep content and lots of dynamism from tools like blogs and forums then you have a MAJOR digital asset that you may even be able to sell. If you want a passive income then you will have to take the risk of being eventually squeezed out by the engines.

Building a VRE site

There are four major considerations if you are building a VRE site.

Is the Project Multi-page or Multi-site?

You will need to make a choice on the structure of your VRE: with many sites that are tied into a network, or with a single large site with multiple pages.

If you go the multi-site route you should consider XSitePro is your web site creation tool.  Simple, easy to use and optimized for multiple site creation,  XSitePro is also a stand-alone product that you buy outright and contains SEO tools inside it (as well as tools from easily installing Google AdSense.  This means you can create multiple sites and pick up very low cost hosting.  You would then use the principles of Mininet linking as shown in the Revenge of the Mininets

If you decide to go with a single large site, then your best bet is to go with SiteBuildIt. This powerful service is really a value-add hosting service. But what value add!  SiteBuildIt has an awesome array of tools for building traffic to your site. However, as it is a high end hosting service, multiple site strategies can become very expensive.

Are You Using Original Content or a Subscription Service?

The pure VRE site uses automated content downloads through RSS to update content dynamically. This means your updates need to be embedded inside static text to ensure that the keyword optimization remains in place. The services we use at HBB Research are

  • SubmitYourArticle an article management service that has hundreds of authors writing on all kinds of subjects
  • Feedburner as the RSS feed. Simple and easy to use.

Creating content really means`writing perhaps hundreds of short articles - from 350 to 750 words.  If you are unsure of your ability to write that much look for a systematic way, such as the 30 Minute Article Writing System.

Or You Can Start By Buying Content

If you want to get going quickly, you can buy your initial content. Under this approach you buy a set of pages pre-formatted and with keyword optimized content and nstall them into a site or series of sites.

The advantage of this is speed in getting going. The disadvantage is the fact that others may have the same content. But, if you were going to create a subscription site anyway, then sharing with others is not a problem.  You can, of course, buy several packages and mix and match. Nor are you prohibited from adding original content as well.

An excellent example of a pack to get you going is AdSense Business In-A-Box

If you want to see an example of a site created in AdSense Business In-A-Box go to http://www.fastracu.com.

How Do I Get the Search Engines to Take Notice?

Clearly this starts with keyword optimization. If you are using SiteBuildIt all the tools you need for this rask are provided and SiteBuildIt  has a profound reputation for being effective.

If you are using another tool, such as XSitePro to build many small linked sites, then you will have to do the ketword optimization using tools such as Overture at,

www.inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion or such specialized tools as WordTracker.com (costly but effective) or GoogleFight.com which is free.

In theory, link strategy should not be necessary as the mass of the site should attract the engines. But if you want to help things along consider Link Machine.

How Far Am I Going?

If you intend to focus on Google, Yahoo and affiliates and keep the content subscribed then getting it up and optimizing the pages is pretty much it.

If you are looking at creating an authority site then your opportunities are just beginning. You need to make this decision early, because you will want to formulate thesite for easy content conversion into Special Reports, eBooks and the like. It's always easier if you plan for it.

An Example of A VRE Business Opportunity

Take a good idea and someone in the world will take it a step further and take the labor out of it!   JVMembers has done just that with the VRE concept.

This opportunity out of the UK, essentially lets you participate in the VRE world without any technology and with no real risk.

JVMembers has built a VRE with a network of sites each dedicated to a specific subject. Content is placed on each page and it is automatically monetized using Clickbank,  Amazon UK and USA, and Google AdSense.

The brilliance of JVMembers is to take the labor of creating massive content and to spread it out over large numbers of people. So, if you join, you write short articles on pre-determined keywords, publish them on the appropriate site, and share in the advertising revenue.

This approach avoids the duplication problem as every article is original. Great attention is paid to the quality of the articles, so as to protect all the members.

If this were not enough, you can even participate by buying articles for submission.  If you write your own articles, it costs you nothing to be a member of JVMembers.

The return from this system is not huge initially, but it should be steady and it should build. As you submit more articles, the number of pages dedicated to you rises and as the pages are there "forever", your underlying participation continually builds.

As I said, the idea is brilliant and well worth a look. Indeed, this is another way to create income from your existing work. If you are already writing articles, writing for JVMembers will give you insights into keywords to write for and then you can repurpose your writings for the JVMembers system.

Concluding Thoughts

VRE is here for ever because it is embedded in the logic of the web. If you want to build a VRE site then before you start I suggest you go to JVMembers and read through their materials - it will give you a deeper feel for that kind of opportunity.  You may even join - after all it is FREE.

If you then decide to go ahead, you will have to decide what you want to create - the John Reese VRE or the classic VRE with full digital exploitation.

Using Pre-Packaged AdSense Offers to Get Started on the Web

Imagine for a moment the difference between creating a product from scratch in a field you know little or nothing about and being given a working prototype to improve over time.

That's exactly the choice you have when you invest in a pre-built AdSense business.

The business comes with content, keyword optimization, web pages and simple graphics. You can put it up on the web and stand a chance of making money almost immediately.

But, that's just the beginning. Say you put up a site built around golf. You will be given lots of articles and content. You can now start "improving it". You can smarten up the graphics, add images, add other content, add products to sell, --- the list is endless. And, all the time your site is always COMPLETE and positioned to earn money!

I started from scratch trying to learn it all and it took me nearly a year to get any income at all!  My efforts always seemed to be unfinished.

If you're interested in seeing what such a site would look like "straight out of the box" go to http://www.fastracu.com

This site comes from the AdSense Business In-A-Box offering. I have left it unimproved, but you can readily see where things could be done.

AdSense Business In-A-Box has 155 different businesses to pick from - or you could simply stack them all up and create one huge AdSense site.

The biggest problem newbies face is getting started. This solves that problem and allows you 155 chances to build and reframe your site as your skills grow!
